Curved Trajectory

For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

Job 33:14-16

2.21.16

This morning before I woke up I had an interesting dream. I went on two interviews with two law firms for an internship. I was one of four individuals, one man named David who had his own company, another man, a woman and myself. I could not figure out which company I wanted to work for so I did not make up my mind.

The first firm was wealthy and well off. If I chose them, I would be set for life on a clear path for success. The second company was small and unimpressive but inside myself, I felt that this was where I was supposed to go but I delayed making a decision.

As I was finishing the interview at the second place, I had a coffee cup in my hand that I placed on a napkin on a desk. Written on a white napkin was the word “ARC” in bold red letters. It was in a diagram, which looked like a curved arch or banner.

I went home and was in bed when the phone rang. I answered it and it was the lady from the prestigious firm who had conducted the interview. She asked me if I had made up my mind yet. She told me that the two men already signed with the firm. She wanted to know my decision. I did not answer her. In my mind, I wondered why was she calling me and pressuring me for an answer.

At this point I sensed that I was going to choose the other company because she already had two of the four interviewees why did she need all. Then the phone rang and I was awakened.

There are a few things that stand out in from the dream:

  • A sense of pressure
  • The word Arc (in red letters)
  • Two paths that lead to two different destinies
  • Doing what everyone else does or does not do
  • Two different law firms which oppose each other yet are governed by law (Romans 7)

Meaning of the word ARC

The clue to understanding the dream lies in the word ARC. An arc is to move with a curving trajectory. Trajectory is a path that is followed by a projectile flying or an object moving under the action of given forces according to the Free Dictionary online.

Therefore, what the Lord was saying is that we can move along a path directed by forces, which cause us to think or believe we are advancing but we are not because the path is curved. As we go up, we will come down. We need to discern the forces behind the occurrences in our lives. Are they twisted, bend, corrupted, or curved?

Will the help us to ascend into heaven or cause us to plummet back toward the earth. Will we be a rocket ship or like a falling star? We start out bright and with promise only to fizzle out.

God desires our trajectory to be straight.

I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

Isaiah 45:2

Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;

Luke 3:5

And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.

Isaiah 42:16

There are things in our lives that may seem right and profitable but they are not. Working is a necessary thing but when we work to the exclusion of all, else, it is an addiction, we become a workaholic and that elevates work over God and ushers us into idolatry, which curves our trajectory. Eventually we will fall to the ground.

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Proverbs 14:12

Red lettering

The red lettering is significant because it means red or ruddy according to the Hebrew word for red ‘admoniy (as found in Genesis 25:25 which is the first mention of the word red in the Bible). ‘Admoniy root meaning come from the word ‘adam which means to be red, ruddy, dyed red, or to grow red.

Therefore, when I placed the coffee cup on the napkin on a spiritual level what I was drinking was going through the transformative process of being reddened.

For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:13

Here God was letting it be known that what I was to ingest should be the provisions provided by Holy Spirit which will cause me to be reddened by through the work accomplished by Christ. My decision was no longer based on my perceptions or according to human views or fashioning. It changed once it was placed on the solid foundation of the table, which was covered by the spirit of Christ.

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Romans 8:9

It is only by the help of Holy Spirit that our course will remain straight.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Romans 8:14

Pressure

The pressure that occurs is based on what others have done or what they do. Being part of a group or needing the approval of others is a dangerous thing to follow or to allow our lives to be governed by. Why?

For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

John 12:43

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

2 Timothy 3:2

For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

Galatians 1:10

We start to value it more than we do God. It will lead us down an unrighteous path, and it invalidates us as a servant of Christ. The result is that our trajectory curves—we ARC.

Wait, seek, listen

As in the dream, we are to take time to examine all angles of the matter. We are to sift through it. Evaluate it in wisdom and with understanding. We are to ask questions and seek the Lord about the matter and take time.

All through the process Holy Spirit (inner voice) was speaking. I heard him clearly. But why didn’t I act right away? Why did I delay? It could be that I wanted to make sure I was hearing correctly. Or that I did not want to be impulsive and make the wrong decision based on fear or worry. But it also could have been because although I was hearing Holy Spirit clearly I wanted the success, prestige, and the honor of being at a big wealthy firm. Was the desire of my heart the one that the Lord gave me or the dream of achievement I had for myself.

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Psalms 37:4

Many believe that God is to give us what we want based on Psalm 37:4 but this is not correct. When we delight in him, we learn of his ways. We discover what pleases him and as we go through this intimate knowing process he fills our hearts with his desires—divine desires—heavenly desires. Conflict arises when our desires do not fall in line with his; this places us at a crossroad. Will we choose God’s way or our way?

Often if we seek the counsel of men, we choose our way because our view is temporal and earthly. If we seek the mind of the Lord or those who are more mature in the faith we will opt for God’s way and hidden dangers are often exposed.

God owns time

God owns time so we will not lose any opportunity that God has provided for us if we decide to wait and seek him in the matter. There are some decisions we can’t make lightly for they are life changing and the repercussions could be enormous.

Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

Matthew 19:21-22

There are other times, when we know what the right decision is, but because of fear or worry, we refuse to act or make a decision. Therefore, we stay fixed in limbo not utilizing the opportunity the Lord has given to us. It is like what the man with the one talent did. He refused to act.

But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.

Matthew 25:18

Failure to act appropriately has a profound impact on our trajectory.

The significance of home

Being home is reflective of being in a place of peace and comfort, which is what we have when we rest and abide in the presence of the Lord.

For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Hebrews 4:3

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

Psalms 100:4

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

When we enter the presence of God, we are at home—for it is our place of safety, rest, and protection.

Season ahead

In this season, many of us will be presented with things that look like they will advance us and help us to finally be established in the earth as men of renown. Able to have the accolades of men. Stories of our wonders heralded throughout the earth. But the trajectory of such men go up only to come down again.

Let us take time and examine each opportunity so it is not a snare unto us but a blessing. Let us make sure our trajectory is not curved but that it will propel us into higher realms in the kingdom of God.

Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity.

Psalms 141:9

For those who have been ensnared by the enemy hope remains. Jesus came so that we could be set free. Claim your freedom today. Repent, confess, and turn.

Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.

Psalm 124:7

My prayer is the spirit wisdom and patience will accompany us as we plan, choose, and judge all matters. And that the discernment of the Lord will be our portion in this new season to the glory of God, in the name of Jesus, amen.
