Emotional Opposition

(Part 2)

Emotional Opposition

“In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.” 2 Timothy 2:25-26

Today’s lesson will be on emotional opposition. However, before we get started let us set the right atmosphere around us to the glory of God.

Bless the Lord for he is worthy to be praised. Lord we command darkness to flee from our midst as we pierce it through with our praise in the name of Jesus, amen.

Praise him

1 Praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him!

Jesus, blessed Savior, he’s worthy to be praised.

From the rising of the sun

until the going down of the same,

he’s worthy, Jesus is worthy,

he’s worthy to be praised.

2 Glory! Glory! In all things give him glory.

Jesus, blessed Savior, he’s worthy to be praised.

For God is our rock,

hope of salvation;

a strong deliverer,

in him I will always trust.

3 Praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him!

Jesus, blessed Savior, he’s worthy to be praised.

From the rising of the sun

until the going down of the same,

he’s worthy, Jesus is worthy,

he’s worthy to be praised.

Praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him!

Jesus, blessed Savior, he’s worthy to be praised.

Emotional Opposition

Today’s lesson focuses on emotional opposition. There are many ways to emotionally oppose the kingdom of God. Negative reactions, habits, doing something we like even though we know it is wrong to do, anger, hatred, and bitterness fall into the category of emotional opposition.

Christ did not have an opinion about what the Father asked him to do. He came to obey and to serve the will of the Father.

“For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.” John 6:38

When we decide not forgive and forget wrongs that were done to us this is opposition. The decision not to forgive and forget causes us to oppose ourselves in that we have broken our covenantal agreement to be like Christ in nature and deed. We have placed our will above that of the Father we have chosen to allow our fallen nature to reign in the place of Christ Jesus.

God’s nature is clearly identified in the following scriptures . . .

“But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 6:15

“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.” Hebrews 8:12

“I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.” Isaiah 43:25

If we refuse to follow the example of Christ, our decision will nullify our covenant agreement for we have laid down our duty in order to take up something that opposes Christ.

On the last day we will have to give an account of our decisions and for our disobedience. How will we explain to our Savior who shed his blood for us that we love him but we could not be like him in spirit and in truth. The call on our lives is to be like Christ, that means we must die so that he can live within us.

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

Are you ready to allow Christ to truly live in you?

We will close today’s lesson with the name of Jesus. There is something about his name that frees, heals, delivers, and sets demons to flight.

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus there is something about that name

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus

There’s just something about that name

Master, Savior, Jesus

Like the fragrance after the rain

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus

Let all heaven and earth proclaim

Kings and kingdoms shall all pass away

But there’s something about that name.

Prayer

Father we thank you for knowledge which will keep us from perishing. We thank you for your mercy and grace toward us. Lord we choose this day to do our duty. To believe in your complete word. To uphold your word and the kingdom. Lord we declare that we desire to live by your will and not our own. Help us to place our emotions under submission in the name of Jesus. Lord reign in our emotions. Help us to lay down unforgiveness, bitterness, envy, greed, lust and any other emotion which will lead us along the path of destruction. Lord clean and purify us with your blood. Help us to live in righteousness putting your will above our own. Lord we do not know how to live righteous lives . . . teach us, enable us, guide us and keep us we pray in Jesus name amen.
